Theater & Opera
As a theatrical choreographer, Apostolia Papadamaki has collaborated with some of Greece’s most renowned theater directors, including Lydia Koniordou, Dimitris Mavrikios, and Spyros Evaggelatos, amongst others.
With many years of experience in staging Ancient Greek tragedy, her work focuses on choreographing the embodied language of the chorus and training actors in the timeless triad of logos (the sacred word), melos (the musical vibration), and kinesis / orchesis(the ritual movement of the body). Through this approach, she bridges classical tradition with contemporary expression, bringing to life the physical, musical, and poetic dimensions that lie at the heart of ancient drama.
From 1996 to 2016, Apostolia Papadamaki made a significant contribution to the Greek theater scene through her choreographies for landmark productions of Ancient Greek tragedy. After two decades of work in the theater, she chose to devote herself to the creation of her visionary Anamnesis site-specific performances, expanding her artistic language into participatory, ceremonial, and interdisciplinary forms.
As an opera artist, Apostolia Papadamaki has contributed both as a choreographer and as a director-choreographer in productions that fuse music, movement, and theater into a unified stage language. Her choreographic vision has enriched major operatic works such as Un ballo in maschera, The Soldier’s Tale, Remember Those Years, and The Chessboard Fugitives, in collaboration with distinguished creative teams.
Renowned for her special talent in musicality, she has also undertaken the dual role of Director & Choreographer in Jocasta, The Princess and the Pea, and L’Incoronazione di Poppea, shaping the overall dramaturgy where voice, music, and gesture intertwine.
